Ming Wong | Extra! 2023

08.–17.09.2023

Every year in September, the Extra! seeks to capture the literary zeitgeist. This year, there is an impression of trouble that emerges… Beneath an apparent stability, conferred by the persistence of the book and the good business of the publishing economy, literature is in reality experiencing troubled times. She finds herself particularly worried and challenged by the writing capabilities of artificial intelligence, a question to which the Center Pompidou is devoting the last day of the festival, as an open door to the future of literature.

Far from limiting himself to a collage, Ming Wong infiltrates each shot, subverts the films and takes turns playing male and female roles. The work oscillates between romantic cinephilia and queer subversion, as if the deconstruction of stories undertaken by the New Novel continued by throwing genres into disarray.
