Catastrophe is the first solo exhibition in South America that addresses the practice of Jerusalem-born artist Dor Guez. The exhibition presents a panoramic view of the artist’s work between the years 2008 and 2022, works that question the role of contemporary art in the telling of unwritten stories and the recontextualization of visual and written documents.
The chosen works are focused on reflecting the traces of violence in the earth’s landscape and interrogate personal experiences and official accounts of the past related to Guez’s experiences and his vision of his home. Dor Guez is born into a Palestinian family of Lydda on his mother’s side and Jewish immigrants from North Africa on his father’s side. Guez’s photography, video installations, essays, and reading performances explore the boundaries between art, narrative, trauma, memory, and displacement.
