Erik Schmidt | Der schönste Jäger von Deutschland

26.04.–28.05.2005

Up until now Schmidt’s works are have been characterized by questions of representation and its related assumptions. Specifically, his works have dealt with the allure of the pop star, sexualtiy and physicality, and the creation of individual worlds as a process of monologue. In order to explore such themes, he has made use of painting, video, text and even photography. Each medium is given equal weight. In “Work is Personal” this latter aspect appears to an extent unprecedented in the artist’s  work.

His current themes focus on the issues of the domicile. Postcard-sized photographs of interiors echo the aesthetics of new “Lifestyle” magazines. A series of medium-sized oil-paintings refer to the pointilistic tradition and show various house exteriors. Finally, a video follows the artist in the initial viewing of an apartment as he reflects about his past living situations.
