Przemek Matecki

Polish artist Prezemek Matecki has described the secretions, excrement and garbage of contemporary material and visual culture as the “substance” from which his works arise. Matecki creates paintings, objects, and installations using materials such as paint, canvas, objects found in the trash, private and magazine photography, art reproductions, and pornographic photography. The intensity of Matecki’s repetitive abstract mark-making threatens to obliterate the figurative and subjective elements of his works, bringing content and texture into conflict with one another.

Przemek Matecki (b. 1976, Żagań) lives and works in Warsaw. He has had solo exhibitions at the National Gallery of Art, Warsaw and CCA Zamek Ujazdowski. He has been included in group exhibitions at venues such as MARTa Herford, Herford; Prague Bienniale 4and Zacheta National Gallery of Art, Warsaw.
