Group Exhibition | Standing

05.03.–21.04.2022

Standing is an ambiguous word. A conjugation of the verb ‘to stand’, in a figurative sense it can mean much more – for example reputation, status, prestige or position. Given this breadth of meaning, it is the perfect word to serve as the title of an exhibition that examines the central ideas of sculpture while at the same time capturing the artistic diversity of 30 years of carlier | gebauer.

Substance and physical presence are prerequisites of art in three dimensions. These stipulations lead to the employment of a multiplicity of materials, which in combination give rise to an incredibly rich visual language. Unusual, delicate and pliable materials like felt, glass and horn – and even industrial plastics – appear as equals alongside traditional sculptural materials like stone, wood and bronze.

Presented as a dialogue between the varying notions of sculpture today, the second edition of the exhibition series celebrating 30 years of carlier | gebauer showcases a richness of artistic expression.
