Asia Now, Paris, 2025
22.–26.10.2025
We are pleased to announce our participation in Asia Now, from 22 – 26 October, at booth S04, where we will be presenting works by Iman Issa and Maria Taniguchi.
Our booth brings together works reflecting Maria Taniguchi’s ongoing attention to matters of the body, time and structure. Over the past 17 years, she has predominantly worked on canvas, developing a rigorous method of painting. Her practice expands to a structure beyond individual canvases, similar to a nervous system, where shifts and alterations become visible upon close observation. Within her method, Taniguchi experiments with subtle variations, creating works placed on the wall rather than leaning against it. Her recent works mark a chromatic shift, revealing lighter grey and red hues on multiple layers of gesso, with ink painted directly onto the thick surface. Additionally, we present a delicate drawing, an imagined architecture, which, like the brick painting, alludes to an endless structure.
Alongside Maria Taniguchi, we exhibit works by Iman Issa, living and working in Paris. In her most recent series, “Doubles: Photograph—(Un)Like (M)Any Other(s)“, she explores “photography by other means.” Moving away from lens- and light-based definitions, she approaches photography philosophically, framing photographs as mirroring rather than depicting. Even as they could be sculptures, Issa refers to them as displays, making a statement against interpretive sovereignty and for the inadequacy of representational models. “Injured Crop Harvester” is accompanied by two traditional photographs from the “(Art) Objects—And More” series.
