Pakui Hardware | Lithuanian Season in France

14.09.2024–06.01.2025

In partnership with the MO Museum in Vilnius, the Centre Pompidou will be showcasing a selection of artists to highlight the sheer wealth and singularity of Lithuanian art from the 1960s to the present. The exhibition reveals some new acquisitions by artists over several generations whose works are of great significance to the history of their nation. This significant donation made possible thanks to the generous backing of the founders of the MO Museum, Danguolé and Viktoras Butkus, has enhanced the Centre Pompidou collection.

The work presented by Pakui Hardware is from their series The Return of Sweetness, which refers to the metabolic obsession of capital reproduction as well as the need for conversation and exchange. Pakui Hardware’s compositions, amorphous, organic-industrial forms, examine the role that technology, economy and materiality have in shaping each other. The focus of the installation lays on an organ-shaped form floating on interconnected parts lacing through space. Working through the metaphor of metabolism, the duo speak from the heart – or rather the belly of all, itself a grossly augmented system, engineered for maximum output, but fatally out of sync.
