Vernissage: Saturday, 10th September, 6 p.m.
On 10th September carlier | gebauer will be inaugurating two new solo exhibitions. Beside a selection of current works by Marko Lehanka (Arch 51), we will present Vacuum Room (2005), Dutch artist Aernout Mik’s most recent video installation (Arch 52).
Marko Lehanka (* 1961) lives in Frankfurt am Main and most recently displayed his work in a large-scale exhibition at the Kunstverein Nürnberg. This is his second solo show at carlier | gebauer. For his installations Lehanka combines the most diverse media and materials with a sure hand; he paints and models, composes and constructs, with wood and paint, words and objects. Echoing organic growth in nature, his work is constantly metamorphosing; older works are sawn up and re-composed, modified and mutated.
In Lehanka’s terms, anyone coming into the exhibition space is confronted with an image. This image opens up a space for thought. In his new work, Nutzfahrzeuge 2005 (Commercial Vehicles), we find apparatus for transmitting motion, planes, boats or trains such as the Triebwagen Transsib - devices often crafted by the artist himself, which, whilst certainly having idiosyncratic proportions, in all probability do indeed function. These are calculatedly improvised constructions advancing precisely this effect: means of transport, spatial communication media capable of transposing the viewer into the lived and conceived space, conveying an action and shifting frames of reference.
